Air Guns A Safe Option - Require Supervision - Vendors Say

Area air gun aficionados said Airsoft, BB or pellet shooters can be safe and be fun learning tools despite two notable violent incidents involving air guns last week.

Dealers at this weekend’s Silver Spur Gun & Blade Show at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center said such tragic incidents as when a Brownsville middle school student was shot to death by police Wednesday in his school while he’s accused of threatening officers with what they later learned was a pellet gun show any air gun can be a dangerous weapon and proves the need for proper supervision.

“If it’s not going to be under supervision, I do not recommend an air gun for any child,” said Airsoft gun vendor Cathy D, who refused to give her last name. “Air guns can be dangerous, and they can be safe. It’s all about supervision.”
